Relocation and Housing

You will likely relocate to a new city for your co-op assignment. Employers may pay for car mileage, meals, or motel costs, depending on the distance, while you search for adequate housing.

Employer housing assistance varies widely concerning co-op students. Some companies may supply housing or provide housing stipends, but most often you will be responsible for finding and paying for your housing. Most employers are very helpful with at least pointing you in the right direction. So remember, ask the employer for assistance to help you get started with your housing search.

If the company does not supply housing, there are several steps you may take in your search:

  • Contact current and past students who previously worked with the company. You may contact Career Services for assistance in getting in touch with these peers.
  • Check the local newspapers or the web.
  • Contact local real estate agencies.
