Michigan Tech Student Awarded Science, Mathematics, And Research For Transformation (SMART) Defense Scholarship for Service Program

Bryce Lunday, a Michigan Tech Electrical Engineering student, recently became the recipient of the SMART scholarship. As a recipient, Lunday has been awarded the following:

• 2009 Fall Tuition Paid for (includes school related fees and tuition, Not housing or food).
• $25,000 Cash Award (No strings attached!).
• Full Time Job with NAVSEA (Naval Research) at the Dahlgren Division in Virginia after graduation (December 2009). Obligated to work for 6 months...hopefully more!
• $500 book allowance for fall semester.
• Trip to annual conference in California for one week in July for SMART program recipients (Trip paid for).
• Health Insurance Reimbursement (starting in September).

Additionally, Lunday's sponsoring facility (NAVSEA Dalhgren) has given him the opportunity to work at the facility for the summer.

New STAR Student on Michigan Tech's Campus!!!

As of May 2008, Jenna Hase, Michigan Tech's current STAR Student, will be handing over her duties to Lawrence Mark. Starting in September 2009, Lawrence Mark will take over the position as Michigan Tech's STAR Student, the Department of Defense's on-campus recruiter.

Mark will continue to fulfill the objectives and goals of the STAR program by remaining to be the liaison between students and DOD agencies.

At the commencement of the 2009-2010 Michigan Tech school year, Mark will make his contact and office hour information public.
