Student Training and Academic Recruitment (STAR)
The STAR program is an innovative recruitment program designed and created by the Department of Defense (DoD), Civilian Personnel Management Service (CPMS), Recruitment Assistance Division (RAD). Through the STAR program, college students are hired as on-campus representatives and have the responsibility to promote the DoD as the "employer of choice" and effectively market the various employment and scholarships opportunities within the DoD to prospective employees through peer-to-peer interaction.
CPMS initiated the STAR program in 2006 as a pilot program and implemented it at the campuses of Michigan Technological University and the University of Puerto-Rico Mayaguez. Due to the positive response and effectiveness of the program from all of its participants, the STAR program has become an official program and has started to expand.
The STAR program is currently executed Michigan Technological University and the University of Puerto-Rico Mayaguez. The program will be expanded to an additional five schools in the Fall 2008. Universities include Tennessee State University and National Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at Rochester Institute of Technology.
