Scheduling Interviews
Employers schedule interview dates well in advance by contacting Career Services and sending back the CAMPUS RECRUITMENT INFORMATION (CRI) form. Employers may schedule "information sessions" in connection with interviews. Interview dates and employers' recruiting criteria are publicized to students in MTU NACElink using either the "Closed" or "Qualified Open" method described below:
- Students do online selection of the employers to whom they wish their resumes to be sent.
- Employers access those resumes online, pre-screen students to be invited (and alternates) for interviews, and enter their selections online. You may select anywhere from one student to the total number of openings on your schedule (full day schedule is 13 half hour slots), plus you may select additional students as Alternates.
- BEFORE THE EMPLOYER DEADLINE - Log in to MTU NACElink to view the students who preselected your company. Choose the students you like, designating them as Invited, Alternate, or Not Invited by the deadline.
- The invitees are allowed to sign up for an interview slot. If your schedule does not fill with Invitees, the Alternates you selected will be allowed to sign-up. Any openings remaining on your schedule can be filled by qualified candidates if you choose (those who meet the exact qualifications on your CRI.)
*Students meeting the exact qualifications specified on your CRI may sign-up for an interview time online (first come-first serve).
If you wish to prescreen resumes, call the University Career Services for resumes. If you choose to prescreen, we suggest you establish invitational schedules for as much as 50 percent of your campus interviewing; to do this, contact our office before returning the Company Recruitment Information Form.
To make sure the students you want to invite get on the interview schedule, send them an Invitational Letter at least four weeks prior to your interview date and send us a list of those students receiving letters.
Interviewing Schedule (Time Slots)
Your first interview is at 8:30 a.m. and your last interview is at 4:30 p.m., for a total of thirteen 30-minute interviews. There is a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. and break times 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. Please notify us if you would like a different time schedule.
Your schedule will be available after 4:00 p.m. the day prior to your interview date. Resumes are included in the schedule packet. Transcripts will be included only if have previously requested them. The University Career Services is located in the Harold Meese Building which is directly across the street from Jim's FoodMart. The Meese Center has 12 rooms for interviewing.
Note: Students are asked to knock on your door at their scheduled time
Parking
If you drive to campus, be sure to get a parking permit from the University Career Services. Parking on campus is at a premium and we can help. (Overnight parking on the streets of Houghton and Hancock during the winter months is prohibited and strictly enforced!)
Company Binder/Video
While you are here, please review your company binder and video verifying that the information is up to date. It is a good idea to plan to bring new literature each time you visit as information quickly goes out of date.
Lunch
Lunch is available on the ground floor cafeteria at the Memorial Union Building located one block east of Career Services or Jim's Foodmart is just across the street. Coffee is available for you throughout the day in Career Services recruiter lounge. We can also arrange lunch for you with a faculty member or department head.
Informational Meeting
If you wish to hold an informational meeting while you are here, please fill out and return the completed Corporate Informational Meetings Form, which is included with your on campus registration packet. These meetings can help you maximize your time during the interviews by covering the basics about your company the night before. You may also wish to take out an ad in the Lode, the student newspaper, to publicize your event. Contact the Lode at 906/487-2404.
Recruiter Sign-In
Please bring business cards with you when you visit campus. We keep a binder on the main desk at Career Services for business cards. This binder is an excellent resource for other students or departments to contact you after your visit.
Just-In-Time Recruiting
We will make every effort to accommodate your needs for scheduling immediate interviews. However, the sooner we receive your Company Recruitment Information Forms, the better service we can provide in preparing your schedules for you.
