Using MyPlan, you can take online skill assessment tests, an interest inventory, and personality tests. Once you have taken them, you can sign up with a Career Center advisor to review your results.
Researching potential careers early in your schooling can help you decide whether you are in the right major. MyPlan offers many resources you can use in your research. Others include:
Interested in seeing company responses to student questions? See the responses to the Career Development Foundations student questions.
Do you know if you are majoring in a field you will enjoy? Take the MyPlan interest inventory to begin narrowing your searches. Try an internship/co-op to make sure this is what you enjoy. Get involved with undergraduate research and Enterprise programs. Talk with your academic advisor or a Career Center advisor.
UN2525 will help students learn about the process of career development and planning. The one credit course covers the topics of personal assessment, job search strategies, and contemporary workplace issues. Students will develop skills that, along with their education, can lead to achieving personal goals and career success.
Get advice on resume/cover letter writing by attending the Seminar Series each semester. Look at our calendar of events for more information and to download the presentations.
Did you know the majority of companies who come to the Career Fairs and recruit on campus use eRecruiting? They search Michigan Tech for students who have posted resumes. If you want to be found, you need to make your resume available on eRecruiting by publishing it in resume books.

More and more companies are looking to hire students with Internship/Co-op experience. Not only do these look good on your resume, interning or co-oping often will let you find out if you will enjoy that line of work.
You will want to apply early, especially if you want/need funding. If you are going to grad school at Michigan Tech, consult with both your department and the Graduate School Office (Admin Building). If you are looking elsewhere, you will likely need to take the general GRE and possibly major specific tests, so plan accordingly.
Mock Interviews give you face to face experience with Career Center staff or volunteers who often have industry experience. If you are unable to attend these or just want more interviewing practice, try InterviewStream. This is an online service in which, using a webcam, you record your responses to chosen, pre-recorded video questions. You can do this from home if you have a webcam or you can schedule a time to use our InterviewStream Kiosk.
Career Day is an excellent opportunity to gain internships, co-ops or full time positions. If you are a freshman or are just starting out, consider going to learn how to approach and talk with recruiters.
Did you get a job offer? Did you accept? We would like to know. This information will help us help future Michigan Tech Students.
